Discovery Green
While
Houston, Texas is full of enlightening and historically dense buildings,
sometimes you need to explore a landmark that is located outside. The perfect
outdoor landmark in Houston is Discovery Green. Located in the heart of
Downtown Houston, Discovery Green is a 12-acre urban park that opened in April
2008.
Across
the 12-acres, there are many things, including; restaurants, a playground,
fountains, gardens, trails, art, outdoor monuments, Kinder Lake, and
performance spaces. There are two restaurants in Discovery Green, The Lake
House and The Grove. The Lake House has a family-friendly concept, and is conveniently
located on the southern end of Kinder Lake. This restaurant is mostly known for
their tacos, fresh guacamole, and hot dogs. The other dining option, The Grove,
has a thrilling urban dining experience, and is mostly known for their steaks,
seafood, and decadent desserts.
In
addition to the attractions that are spread across Discovery Green, this urban
park is home to many events, ranging from art festivals to corporate events and
parties. The type of events change monthly, so prior to visiting Discovery
Green, check out the event schedule. If you want to visit Discovery Green, you
have to go between the hours of 6:00 am and 11:00 pm. Although the park closes
at a designated time, admission is free. If you want a guided tour of Discovery
Green, you can download the free audio tour to your smartphone. Discovery Green
also offers group tours and field trips. During these large group visits, there
is a maximum of 300 people allowed, and there is a $4 fee per person. Lastly,
